The Lawton-Fort Sill Field Site

The Lawton-Fort Sill Field Site for the Defense Finance & Accounting Service (DFAS) was located in the old Fort Sill Reynolds Army Hospital at 4700 Mow Way Road and conducted operations from February of 1996 through January of 2007. After occupying the 1st floor of the north wing for a few years and having satellite operations on Randolph Road for some time, the renovation of the main building of the old hospital was completed and DFAS occupied five floors of the building (the basement and four main floors) with the top floor renovated and wired but never occupied.

The Lawton-Fort Sill Field Site for DFAS began operations on February 16, 1996 and closed its doors in January of 2007 due to the Base Realignment & Closure results of 2005. During its tenure the Lawton-Fort Sill Field Site was consistently one of the most productive and cost effective operations under DFAS. Obviously the closure of the field site was more a political move than an economic one. During the height of its operations, it employed nearly 300 people and had the capacity to almost double that at any time with very little increase in operating costs. Sadly the powers that were to be did not see the cost effectiveness of the field site and chose to consolidate operations elsewhere. To the several field site directors and all the civilian and military employees of DFAS-Lawton, we congratulate you on a job well done.
