Lawton Flooding ~ June, 2007

These photos were taken June 30, 2007 after a record setting 17 straight days of rain. This was the first real day of sunshine even though storm clouds still threaten. As of Friday, June 29, all traffic inbound to Lawton from the east was diverted at Flower Mound Road to Gore Blvd.  Interstate 44 was shut down between the Medicine Park exit and Rogers Lane. Officials were allowing 18-wheel semis through but when the water climbed to the height of the semi's bumpers, even they were halted from using that section of I-44.  South bound traffic on I-44 was being diverted at Medicine Park and routed through the Wichita Wildlife Refuge to Cache, OK. and back to Lawton via US 62 (Cache Road). North bound traffic on I-44 was forced to exit on Rogers Lane.

Another photo of the north bound I-44 on-ramp off Lee Blvd. Note the west bound lane of Lee Blvd. is still under water. The 3-slat sign is in the center of the on-ramp. While the east bound lane of Lee Blvd. appears almost clear, it isn't!
